A Carnival Full of Surprises and Love for the City
The Carnival of Madrid has begun with an event that promises to be unforgettable, under the direction of the renowned magician Jorge Blass. This Saturday, from the iconic main square of Matadero, Blass delivered a speech that not only celebrated the festivity but also paid tribute to the love for the Spanish capital. In a festive and family-friendly atmosphere, hundreds of attendees, many of them in costumes, gathered to enjoy this unique celebration.
Coinciding with Valentine's Day, the magician called for the celebration of all types of love: "romantic love, cheeky love, and love for Madrid." With his characteristic charming style, Blass highlighted how Madrileños dress up not only during Carnival but in their everyday lives: "In Madrid, we dress up as ourselves," he stated while casting a collective spell to transform the streets into a stage where every citizen is the protagonist.
The show did not end with the announcement. Following this, a grand parade took place, starting from the Puente de Toledo and winding through Madrid Río to reach Plaza Matadero. This route transformed the urban space into a vibrant outdoor stage filled with street theatre, music, and circus acts. The delegate for Culture, Tourism, and Sport, Marta Rivera de la Cruz, who also participated dressed as a mix between the Bridgertons and Willy Wonka, shared details about the various activities scheduled until next Wednesday.
Among the highlights are Latin dances at Matadero on Saturday afternoon and a special performance where Goya's paintings will come to life with the manteo of the pelele. Rivera assured that Madrileños will greatly enjoy this cultural offering designed for the whole family.
Jorge Blass expressed his excitement at being the official announcer of the Carnival this year and recalled that he is simultaneously directing the XVI International Magic Festival at Circo Price. "Madrid is a magical city not only for its festivals; here anything can happen," he commented while performing one of his magic tricks in front of the attending media.
As this celebration filled with colour and joy progresses, Madrid becomes a cultural epicentre where every corner invites participation in a unique collective experience. From creative workshops to stunning visual shows, this Carnival promises to be an unforgettable party for all attendees.
