Amateur theatre companies in Parla can apply for grants until September 20. The Showcase will take place at the Isaac Albéniz Theatre and entry will be free.
The Culture Department of Parla has opened the call for the XXIX Local Theatre Showcase, offering financial aid of €400 per project to amateur theatre companies in the municipality. Applications can be submitted until September 20, although participation in the showcase is not a requirement. This means that any interested group can submit their proposal without needing to apply for the grant.
The event, which will be held at the Isaac Albéniz Theatre, will allow local actors and actresses to showcase their talent on a professional stage after a process that includes rehearsals, direction, and set design. This year, as in previous editions, a large participation from the cultural associative fabric of the municipality is expected.
To access the grants, companies must submit a financial report related to their project. Aspects such as the interest and innovation of the theatrical project, as well as the overall quality and the suitability between what is presented and the final result, will be evaluated.
Additionally, there will be a popular jury that will award prizes in various categories, including Best Show, Best Actor, and Best Actress. The awards will also recognise technical aspects such as Best Set Design or Best Costume. The company winning the Best Show Award will have the opportunity to perform their work again within the municipal programme at the Jaime Salom Theatre, which has a larger capacity.
Performances will take place on Fridays and Saturdays at 20:00 hours, and on Sundays at 18:00 hours. Entry will be free by invitation, ensuring access for the public to enjoy local talent.
Following the analysis of the received applications, an organisational meeting for the selected participants will be convened on October 1 at 18:00 hours. During this meeting, the dates and order of performances for this much-anticipated edition will be defined.
Councillor Gema García Torres has highlighted the cultural importance of the event: “Few places have the privilege of hosting an amateur showcase that endures year after year thanks to collective effort.” This twenty-ninth edition promises to be memorable and impactful for all attendees.
