A Journey Through Contemporary Dance and Independent Cinema
This weekend, Madrid becomes the cultural epicentre with a series of events that promise to delight art and dance lovers. From innovative performances to cinematic screenings, the city offers a packed agenda of activities for all tastes.
At the Centro Danza Matadero, acclaimed dancer Jesús Carmona presents his work Tentativo, where he fuses flamenco with contemporary elements. This performance, taking place in Nave 11, stands out for its impressive staging and its ability to explore new dimensions of dance. With artistic direction shared with Luis Luque, Carmona takes the audience through sound and visual landscapes that transcend the conventional.
The piece begins with a striking display of tambourines that resonates throughout the space, creating an immersive atmosphere. As it progresses, the female voices of Teresa Hernández and Gabriela Giménez add emotional layers to the narrative, while the costumes designed by Belén de la Quintana provide a memorable aesthetic touch.
Not only does dance take centre stage this weekend; independent cinema also shines brightly. The Filmoteca Española pays tribute to American director Kelly Reichardt, known for her minimalist approach and exploration of social margins. Two notable films will be screened: River of Grass, a reinterpretation of the road movie genre, and Certain Women, which tells the intertwined lives of three women in pursuit of their dreams.
Taking advantage of the framework of the Ellas Crean Festival, several Madrid museums are transformed into venues for unique performances. On Saturday, March 7, the Museo de América will host the world premiere of La peor de todas, a piece dedicated to Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, while the Museo del Traje will celebrate International Women's Day with a special performance titled After the Drop.
Apart from cinema and dance, music lovers can enjoy the new musical project between Leonor Watling and Leo Sidran. This intimate meeting promises to be one of the highlights of the festival, combining sophisticated pop with elegant jazz.
We cannot forget to mention Art Madrid, which is celebrating its 21st edition at the Galería Cristal of the Palacio de Cibeles. This fair brings together over 35 national and international galleries until Sunday, the 8th, offering a unique space to explore the latest in contemporary art.
