Preparations for the San Isidro Fair 2026
The iconic bullring of Las Ventas, in Madrid, is undergoing renovation and maintenance as the anticipated San Isidro Fair 2026 approaches. This event, which attracts thousands of fans each year, promises to be one of the most attended to date, with a record of over 18,000 subscribers and numerous bullfights already sold out.
The Community of Madrid has allocated €439,522 to carry out essential work on the infrastructure before the start of the Isidril cycle. According to official statements, this work is part of an ongoing plan aimed at ensuring the safety of nearly 600,000 annual attendees. Improvements include partial replacement of the pavement on the stairs and structural repairs in various areas.
As Las Ventas prepares for its centenary in 2031, it is expected that a comprehensive reform will begin from the Autumn Fair 2027, requiring an investment of over €40 million. This ambitious renovation could temporarily affect the current capacity, which is close to 23,000 spectators, due to necessary interventions in the stands.
The scheduled works will force a delay in the start of next year's bullfighting season until May, meaning there will be no festivities during March and April. The regional administration has also extended the contract with Plaza 1 for an additional year, thus ensuring continuity in the management of the Madrid bullring.
Not only is it a nerve centre for bullfighting fans; Las Ventas is considered the third most important venue for mass events in Madrid, surpassed only by the Santiago Bernabéu and Riyadh Air Metropolitano stadiums. With these renovations and preparations, Las Ventas reaffirms its position as a cultural and social icon within the Spanish capital.
