A Vibrant Start at Las Ventas
The Monumental de Las Ventas becomes this weekend the epicentre of the bullfighting world with the celebration of the Community of Madrid Fair, an event that anticipates the grand cycle of the San Isidro Fair 2026. From May 1 to 3, fans and novice bullfighters will gather at this emblematic venue, where more than 18,000 season tickets for San Isidro have already been sold, demonstrating the renewed interest in bullfighting in the capital.
The event kicks off with a novice bullfighting competition featuring cattle from Madrid ranches, highlighting novice bullfighters David López, Álvaro Serrano, and Joel Ramírez. This first day promises to be a spectacle full of excitement and emerging talent. On Saturday, fans will enjoy the traditional Goyesca Bullfight, where matadors such as Uceda Leal, El Cid, and Javier Cortés will take to the ring with bulls from the prestigious El Pilar ranch.
In a recent meeting at the Sala Antonio Bienvenida, Uceda Leal expressed his desire to deliver a memorable performance: “What one has in mind is almost unattainable,” he commented. For his part, El Cid recalled his special connection with the Madrid audience: “Succeeding here is very difficult; when you achieve it, you are the happiest man in the world.” Javier Cortés also shared his enthusiasm for sharing the stage with two figures he deeply admires.
The official poster for this Goyesca Bullfight has been designed by Paloma Velarde, who pays tribute to José Miguel Arroyo Joselito, recalling his historic solo performance thirty years ago. This tribute adds a nostalgic touch to the event and reinforces the rich history surrounding Las Ventas.
As the San Isidro Fair approaches, expectations are rising among fans.
