A screening with purpose
This Friday, the Verdi Cinemas of the Community of Madrid transformed into an educational space by screening the film The Infiltrator, an initiative that brought together 215 students from various educational institutions. This event, organised by the regional government, aims primarily to raise awareness among young people about the consequences of ETA terrorism.
The attending students come from several publicly funded educational centres, including Colegio Santo Domingo FESD, IES Arturo Soria, and Salesianos Carabanchel-Beato Miguel Rúa. This diversity reflects the programme's commitment to involving different communities within the region.
The Minister of Family, Youth and Social Affairs, Ana Dávila, was present at the event and emphasised that this screening is part of Culturea, an initiative aimed at enriching cultural knowledge among young people. According to Dávila, such activities not only allow for the remembrance of difficult moments in Spanish history but also provide an opportunity to reflect on the suffering experienced and how it has influenced today's society.
After the screening, attendees participated in a discussion with the film's director, Arantxa Echevarría. This dialogue further enriched the educational experience by allowing students to interact directly with a key figure in the film's creation. The General Directorate of Youth has scheduled a film cycle that will include other significant movies such as All the President's Men and 12 Angry Men, thus reaching over 1,250 students.
Under the leadership of Isabel Díaz Ayuso, the Madrid government has emphasised its commitment to providing healthy cultural and recreational alternatives for young people. Last year, over 80,000 students participated in similar activities ranging from sports to cinema and theatre. This programming aims not only to entertain but also to educate and inform about relevant issues for new generations.
