A Party to Remember
The streets of Madrid are preparing to welcome thousands of visitors for the eagerly awaited San Isidro Festivities, which will begin this Thursday. The city’s mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, kicked off the celebrations with a lively dance at the event's presentation, inviting all Madrileños to ‘chulapear’ and enjoy local culture.
The programme includes an impressive variety of concerts taking place at different iconic locations such as La Pradera, Plaza Mayor, and Las Vistillas. Among the featured artists are Fangoria, Los Chunguitos, and the legendary Miguel Ríos. Additionally, there will be a surprise international artist who promises to delight the audience during the event.
At La Pradera, the festive atmosphere will be marked by groups like Celtas Cortos, while Plaza Mayor will pay tribute to the iconic chulapa Sara Montiel with special performances. Las Vistillas will also offer a space for new musical trends with emerging artists like Hens and Triángulo de Amor Bizarro.
Not only will music take centre stage; Madrid's traditions will also have a prominent place. A mass will be held at La Pradera in honour of the saint, along with colourful parades and fireworks every night from May 15 to 17. Additionally, ten regional houses will participate in the Festival of Madrid Dances showcasing their traditional costumes.
The Re-Chulos parade, scheduled for May 16 at Las Vistillas, will present sustainable reinterpretations of the traditional castizo outfit thanks to collaboration with the Association of Fashion Creators of Spain. This event is part of the effort to merge tradition with modernity in a contemporary context.
Gastronomy will be another fundamental pillar during these festivities. Michelin star chef Javi Estévez will offer his innovative version of the traditional Madrid sandwich through the official event website. Moreover, food lovers will be able to enjoy the famous cocido madrileño at Abrantes on the main day of the festivities.
Activities for the little ones will not be lacking. The Teatro Circo Price will host an astonishing contemporary circus, while the Puppet Theatre in El Retiro will offer free pottery workshops as part of the festive framework. Morning sessions at Las Vistillas will include games and performances designed specifically to entertain children.
