Madrid Prepares for an Unforgettable Holy Week: Over 20 Processions Will Fill the Streets with Tradition and Devotion

A Unique Celebration in the Heart of Madrid

Holy Week in Madrid promises to be an unparalleled event, with more than twenty processions winding through the neighbourhoods of the Spanish capital from Friday of Sorrows, 27 March, to Holy Saturday, 4 April. This year, the iconic Puerta del Sol will become a nerve centre where attendees can enjoy the passage of the most representative images.

The City Council has arranged a seating area with 600 chairs, which will be available for locals and tourists until full capacity is reached. Entry will be free through Carretas and Correos streets, also ensuring reserved spaces for people with reduced mobility. This initiative aims to promote civic participation and allow everyone to enjoy the art and religiosity that characterise this festivity.

Among the sculptures that will be displayed during these days are masterpieces such as the Christ of Medinaceli, the Most Holy Christ of Faith and Forgiveness, as well as the Virgin Mary in her representation as Our Lady of Solitude and Abandonment. These images are not only religious symbols but also key pieces of Madrid's cultural heritage.

• Friday of Sorrows (27 March): At 19:30, departure from Puente de Vallecas of the Christ of Forgiveness alongside the Virgin of Mercy.
• Palm Sunday (29 March): La Borriquita begins its route at 15:15 from the Cathedral of Almudena.
• Holy Monday (30 March): Procession of The Seven Words starting at 20:00 from Our Lady of Delights.
• Holy Wednesday (1 April): Two brotherhoods will depart simultaneously at 19:45 from different parishes.
• Holy Thursday (2 April): Four main processions will begin from 17:00.
• Good Friday (3 April): The most intense day with seven highlighted processions, including the anticipated passage through Puerta del Sol around 21:30.
• Holy Saturday (4 April): A golden finale with the departure of Our Lady and the Lying Christ at 16:00.
