A Madrid Icon in Transformation
The emblematic Cibeles Fountain, one of the most recognisable symbols of Madrid, will undergo a comprehensive restoration that promises to restore its original splendour. This ambitious project will begin in June and last for five months, concluding in October. The intervention is driven by the Area of Culture, Tourism and Sport of the Madrid City Council.
The total cost of the restoration amounts to 400,000 euros, a figure that includes both the development of the project and the execution and supervision of the works. Of this amount, L’Oréal Groupe España will contribute 370,000 euros, reaffirming its commitment to the conservation of historical and artistic heritage.
The collaboration with the City Council is not new for L’Oréal, which has been involved in similar projects in other iconic cities. Among its most notable contributions is the restoration of Notre-Dame Cathedral following the devastating fire in 2019 and support for the Neptune Fountain in Madrid, scheduled for 2024.
The agreement was recently formalised during a meeting between Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida and Juan Alonso de Lomas, president of L’Oréal Groupe España. Also present were Marta Rivera de la Cruz, delegate of the Area of Culture, Tourism and Sport, and Javier López Zafra, Secretary General and Director of Institutional Relations of the group.
This initiative is part of the Annual Sponsorship Programme of the City Council, designed to promote projects that preserve cultural heritage through strategic partnerships between the public and private sectors. With this action, Madrid aims not only to beautify its iconic spaces but also to strengthen its cultural identity in the eyes of the world.
