A new opportunity for Madrid's entrepreneurs
The Community of Madrid has launched an ambitious initiative aimed at supporting local self-employed individuals and micro-enterprises, offering grants that can reach up to 150,000 euros. This measure was announced by President Isabel Díaz Ayuso during her recent visit to the United States, where she met with businesspeople and investors.
The new package of grants, which will be approved at the next meeting of the Government Council, aims primarily to promote the growth and expansion of businesses in municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants. Companies located in these areas will receive an additional 10,000 euros, reflecting the regional government's commitment to strengthening the business fabric in rural and less populated environments.
To benefit from this funding, companies must meet certain requirements: they must have been operational for at least three years and have a minimum of nine employees. Additionally, they will be required to submit a strategic plan detailing how the requested funds will be used for business expansion, including aspects such as opening new establishments or modernisation processes.
Díaz Ayuso highlighted that these grants aim to eliminate obstacles faced by small businesses, such as limited access to funding or difficulties in attracting specialised talent. “We want to boost those companies that are functioning and wish to continue growing,” she stated during her speech in New York.
Taking advantage of her official trip to the U.S., Ayuso also emphasised the fundamental role Madrid plays as a favourable environment for foreign investment. According to recent data, approximately 70% of the operations carried out in 2023 come from the North American country. The president encouraged American businesspeople to consider Madrid as an ideal place to establish their projects.
It is not just about economic measures; Ayuso also announced a series of celebrations planned to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence. This tribute will include special events and distinctions that highlight the ties between Spain and the U.S., thereby reinforcing bilateral relations.
