The regional government has put a penthouse in Chamberí and four properties on Gran Vía up for sale, with a total minimum price of 18.5 million. The operation aims to finance the reconstruction after wildfires in the Sierra Oeste.

The Community of Madrid has initiated the sale process of a luxurious penthouse located on General Martínez Campos Avenue, with a starting price set at6,694,201 euros. This action is being carried out through Planifica Madrid and is part of a broader strategy that includes four other properties located on Gran Vía, whose combined price exceeds 11.8 million. The decision comes shortly after the regional government acquired the penthouse, which has generated controversy and criticism from opposition parties. Councillor Miguel Ángel García Martín justified the sale as a measure to help finance the reconstruction following the recent wildfires in the Sierra Oeste.

The operation is divided into two lots: one consisting of the four properties on Gran Vía and another that includes the aforementioned penthouse. The properties are initially valued at around 20 million, but offers are expected to exceed the minimum prices set for each lot. Interested parties have until 23:59 hours on September 7 to submit their proposals.

Despite the official argument regarding the financial need for reconstruction, many question the intentions behind this sale. The acquisition of the penthouse was presented as necessary due to planned works at the Real Casa de Correos, where it is expected that Isabel Díaz Ayuso will need a temporary office. However, this justification has been met with skepticism as there were no clear indications of such works before the announcement.

“Someone is afraid of ending up behind bars,” stated Manuela Bergerot, spokesperson for Más Madrid, suggesting that these decisions could be related to political pressures on Ayuso.

The property located in Chamberí has a total built area of 481 square meters, while the properties on Gran Vía sum more than 1,200 square meters. This latter building dates back to 1925 and features notable architectural characteristics such as its neo-Renaissance style and its comprehensive protection within the municipal urban catalogue.

As this process advances, political parties have intensified their criticism of the regional government. The PSOE has announced its intention to bring this case before the Prosecutor's Office, considering that there are significant irregularities related to this real estate transaction. “It makes no sense,” stated members of the socialist party after learning the details about the sale.

Although the Madrid Executive defends its position by arguing urgent financial needs to address recent natural disasters, many citizens view this situation as a desperate attempt to divert attention from possible scandals related to public management.

As the deadline for submitting offers for these exclusive properties approaches, it is clear that this matter will continue to generate political and social debate both within and outside the Madrid area. Interested parties must keep in mind not only the established minimum prices but also the legal and ethical implications behind these real estate transactions.
