The renovation works on Paseo de Goya in Móstoles are underway, focusing on improving accessibility and reorganising parking. These interventions, driven by the City Council, aim to create a safer and more pleasant environment for pedestrians. Mayor Manuel Bautista, along with councillor Sergio Soler and the president of District Board 2 North-University, Mª Ángeles Gómez, recently visited the area to assess the progress of the works.
Among the main actions is the renewal of sidewalks, which includes the removal of an old platform designated for containers. This action will not only facilitate pedestrian traffic but will also allow for the creation of two new parking spaces in a battery layout. In particular, work is being done at the intersection with Miguel Ángel street, where the platform will be demolished and the pavement renewed.
Additionally, the replacement of curbs is being carried out in a landscaped roundabout located at the intersection of Paseo de Goya and Salcillo street. Expanding pedestrian space is a priority to ensure smoother and safer transit.
These improvements are part of a larger effort by the City Council to adapt pedestrian crossings to current regulations. Tactile and visual pavements with relief and chromatic contrast have been installed to help visually impaired individuals navigate this area more safely.
Mayor Bautista highlighted: "With these actions, we improve the quality of life for residents, making Móstoles a more accessible city." Such projects not only benefit those with reduced mobility but also contribute to overall well-being by promoting more friendly public spaces.
Over time, Móstoles has undertaken various similar initiatives to modernise its urban infrastructure. For example, five years ago, significant changes were implemented in other key areas such as the historic centre, leading to a notable increase in public transport use and a decrease in vehicular traffic.
The current works are scheduled to be completed in a few months. Residents can expect to see a revitalised Paseo de Goya that not only enhances its aesthetics but also its daily functionality.
