The Association of Doctors and Higher Graduates of Madrid (Amyts) has called for a national strike to take place between 15 and 19 June. This mobilization aims to express the medical community's rejection of the Draft Law of the Framework Statute, promoted by the Government, which they consider harmful to their profession.
Reasons for the Protest
The doctors plan to carry out various actions during this week of strikes, highlighting a protest scheduled for Monday 15 June in front of the Ministry of Health. Additionally, Amyts has submitted formal objections against the legislative draft, which has already passed its process in the Council of Ministers on 2 June and is currently in the public phase.
The main demands include an effective recognition of the particularities that define the medical profession. The goal is to prevent the new regulations from consolidating or worsening situations of labour inequality, especially in comparison to other healthcare groups.
Amyts has pointed out urgent issues such as the proper regulation of on-call hours or shifts, the correct professional classification, and the conditions for retirement. They also demand salary improvements, specific negotiations for doctors, and strict limits on the workload they face daily.
Amyts denounces that the Ministry's text aims to establish a more burdensome labour regime for doctors.
The union warns that this new framework could impose mandatory shifts without fair recognition either economically or labour-wise. Therefore, they demand that every hour worked be recognised and compensated equitably. They also urge the authorities to move towards a specific statute for doctors, which adequately regulates their particularities.
Amyts also emphasises the urgent need to implement concrete measures to protect the physical and mental health of medical staff. This includes improving working conditions for resident doctors and properly recognising tutors in Specialised Health Training. Furthermore, they request professional incentives in specialties with a chronic shortage of staff.
Amyts encourages all doctors and citizens to submit their own objections against the draft.
Finally, Amyts has made a public call urging all involved sectors to actively participate in this process. They seek to halt what they consider a damaging draft for the future of the Spanish healthcare system. Citizen participation is seen as crucial to strengthen their position against the Government.
