Alcalá de Henares, Aranjuez and five other municipalities in the Community of Madrid will register maximum temperatures of up to 38 degrees. This phenomenon occurs in a context of extreme heat and clear skies.
Extreme heat is taking over the Community of Madrid this Saturday, with six municipalities reaching 38 degrees Celsius. Alcalá de Henares, Aranjuez, Pinto, Rivas-Vaciamadrid, Torrejón de Ardoz and Valdemoro are the towns that will experience these record temperatures. The capital will also feel the impact of the heat, with a maximum expected of 37 degrees. This meteorological phenomenon is part of a heatwave that has affected much of the country over the past few weeks.
The weather conditions for today are ideal for rising temperatures: completely clear skies and a total absence of precipitation. The minimums in some municipalities like Majadahonda will be around 17 degrees, while in Las Rozas and Pozuelo, minimums of around 18 degrees are expected. However, many areas will continue to experience tropical nights.
The AEMET has warned about the adverse effects of intense heat on public health. Citizens are advised to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during the hottest hours of the day and to stay hydrated. The dry environment and strong sunlight can exacerbate respiratory and cardiovascular problems.
Such phenomena are not new to the region; for example, in August last year, similar temperatures were recorded that led to health alerts due to the elevated risk for vulnerable groups. Compared to previous decades, summers in Madrid have shown a significant increase in average maximum temperatures.
Experts suggest that these extreme weather events could become more frequent due to global climate change. The combination of accelerated urbanization and global warming is contributing to a notable increase in heatwaves.
For those planning to go out today, it is crucial to take appropriate precautions: use sunscreen, wear light clothing, and seek shade whenever possible. Additionally, it is advisable to schedule outdoor activities for the early hours of the day or after sunset when temperatures are more bearable.
The sunrise is scheduled for 07:10 and sunset will be at 21:28, providing a wide window to enjoy the day before the intense heat. Citizens should stay alert for any weather updates throughout the day.
