If you have recently turned on the TV during coffee time or in the afternoon and seen a young woman from Salamanca with very strong political opinions, you have probably come across Sarah Santaolalla. This 26-year-old communicator has become one of the most talked-about faces on Spanish television, both for her direct style and for the controversies she generates every time she speaks.

Who is Sarah Santaolalla

Sarah Pérez Santaolalla was born in Salamanca in 1998 (although there is some confusion and some sources point to 1999), which currently makes her 26 years old. She is a communicator, political analyst, lawyer, and activist, although she primarily defines herself as a radio presenter and television collaborator. Her meteoric rise in the Spanish media landscape has been so rapid that many wonder how someone so young has managed to be present on practically all the mainstream channels in the country.

She comes from a Salamanca family linked to the legal profession. Both her father and mother and her brother are related to the legal sector, which likely influenced her decision to study Law, although we will see later that her academic training has certain nuances.

Academic training

Sarah studied Audiovisual Communication at the University of Salamanca and Law at the University of León. However, this is where doubts begin: various sources indicate that she did not complete her Law degree, although this has not prevented her from appearing on many programmes as a "jurist" in addition to being a communicator and activist.

During her university years, she actively participated in university radio and began to show the interest in politics and activism that would later define her professional career. She was not one to stay silent in class, and that is noticeable.

Professional career

Little-known beginnings

Before becoming a regular commentator on major networks, Sarah took her first steps at 7NN, a television channel linked to the far right that no longer exists. Curious, isn’t it? Considering that she is now clearly identified with progressive positions and is one of the most critical voices against the Spanish right.

She then moved to Canal Red, Pablo Iglesias' audiovisual project, where she began to align her discourse with the leftist positions she maintains today. It was during this stage that she began to define her combative and unfiltered style that characterises her interventions.

The leap to mainstream television

Her real breakthrough came when she joined Mediaset, specifically on programmes like "Cuatro al día", "Todo es mentira", and "En boca de todos". In these spaces, she gained visibility thanks to her direct political analyses and her ability to generate debate (and controversy, it must be said).

But where she really consolidated her position was at RTVE, participating in programmes presented by Javier Ruiz and Jesús Cintora such as "Mañaneros 360" and "Malas lenguas". Suddenly, Sarah was everywhere: TVE, Mediaset, Antena 3 with "Espejo Público"… practically omnipresent in the landscape of Spanish political talk shows.

Political and social activism

Beyond television, Sarah has been involved in social and political activism from a very young age. She presided over the association Jóvenes Vecinos de Salamanca and has participated in community projects related to her hometown.

She collaborates with Proactiva Open Arms, the NGO dedicated to rescuing migrants in the Mediterranean, and has actively protested against evictions in Salamanca, participating in demonstrations under the slogan "Today another suicide, evictions kill".
