The Patron Saint Festivities of Leganés in honour of Our Lady of Butarque will include free concerts and a central procession. This year, the celebration coincides with the 400th anniversary of the town.
Leganés is preparing to experience a memorable Patron Saint Festivities from August 11 to 16, in honour of Our Lady of Butarque. This year, the celebration will not only honour the local patroness but will also mark a significant milestone: the 400 years of Leganés as a Town. The programme includes a series of cultural and religious events that promise to attract both locals and visitors.
The event will kick off on Tuesday 11 with the Radiolé Festival, where artists such as Camela and Sylvia Pantoja will liven up the day. On Wednesday 12, local groups will gather to officially start the festivities with an opening speech in the car park of Avenida de la Lengua Española, accompanied by the Galician orchestra París de Noia.
From Thursday 13, free concerts at the Fairgrounds will begin with performances by the Asturian Enol and Paul Alone. The highlight will come on Friday 14, when Café Quijano takes the stage, followed by Demarco Flamenco on Saturday 15. Additionally, as a festive preview, a youth party will take place on Saturday 8, featuring DJ Santy Amate.
The religious tradition will reach its peak on August 14, when the Virgin will be transferred from her hermitage. The solemn procession is scheduled for the following day, departing from the Parish of San Salvador.
The Councillor for Festivities, Almudena A. Jiménez, has expressed her enthusiasm: "We are working to ensure that the pride of being from Leganés becomes a driving force behind our celebrations again." This statement resonates particularly this year due to the historic anniversary being commemorated.
Apart from the festive and cultural atmosphere, authorities have implemented additional measures to ensure safety during the celebrations. Mayor Miguel Ángel Recuenco has announced a reinforced security plan that will include security cameras and intensive cleaning throughout the Fairgrounds. Local traditions will also be present with activities such as the free distribution of food and the popular Water and Yellow Humour Festivals.
