A festival that transforms reading
Libromad, the innovative literary festival of the Community of Madrid, arises as a response to the current needs of the publishing world and readers. This event, which will take place from 23 to 26 April, aims not only to celebrate literature but also to expand its boundaries beyond printed pages.
For four days, more than 100 municipalities in the region will come alive with literary activities featuring a programme that includes over 400 activities. From Alcalá de Henares to San Lorenzo de El Escorial, the festival will actively involve 130 bookstores, 120 libraries, and around 300 authors and artists. This extensive offering is designed to attract reading enthusiasts of all ages.
The event will culminate in a grand closing on Sunday 26 April, where the iconic Plaza de España will transform into a cultural epicentre. Attendees will be able to enjoy a mini book fair, children's workshops, conferences, concerts, and author signings. Additionally, there will be a gastronomic area to complement this unique experience.
Mariano de Paco, the Councillor for Culture, Tourism and Sports, has highlighted that Libromad is the direct result of dialogue with booksellers and publishers. According to him, this festival is born to meet the true needs of the current literary sector. “Booksellers and readers are the protagonists,” he stated during his speech on the programme Km0.
Under the slogan ‘The confines of books’, Libromad invites reflection on how a book can be a gateway to unknown worlds. De Paco emphasizes that by opening a book, the reader not only accesses a story; they enter a transformative process filled with knowledge and emotions.
All scheduled activities are mostly free and designed to foster an inspiring meeting between readers. Libromad represents an exceptional opportunity to discover new titles and cultural spaces while enjoying time with family or among friends passionate about reading.
