A weekend full of activities in the capital
The Community of Madrid is gearing up for a spectacular close to the month of May, offering citizens and visitors a vibrant agenda that includes free concerts, cultural fairs, and a wide variety of outdoor activities. From Friday to Sunday, the city will transform into an epicentre of entertainment and culture, with events spanning from the streets to the parks.
Music will be one of the main attractions of the weekend. This Friday, the Nights of the Castle in Alameda de Osuna will feature the talented Esperanza Garrido, who will give a free concert starting at 19:00 hours. Additionally, the Urban Festival in Torrejón de Ardoz, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, will showcase prominent performances including that of popular DJ Juan Magán.
Not only that; popular festivities will also be present in various municipalities. In San Fernando de Henares, Friday night will be enlivened by the Orquesta Panorama, while Saturday will see performances from artists like Lérica and Demarco Flamenco. The Fiestas de Aluche, on the other hand, will kick off this Saturday with a free concert by the renowned singer Funambulista.
Aside from music, Madrid will also offer a rich cultural experience. This Saturday marks the start of the much-anticipated Madrid Book Fair, which will take place in the iconic Retiro Park. With 245 exhibitors and over 230 authors signing books until June 15, this fair is considered one of the most important literary events of the year.
Throughout the weekend, Leganés will host a large Goyesco Market, where attendees can enjoy not only music and parades but also shows inspired by past eras. In Usera, a special day will take place where 18 workshops will open their doors to the public between 11:00 and 19:00 hours.
Not everything will be music and fairs; Madrid will also enrich its cultural offerings with new free exhibitions. The Costume Museum will present an exhibition dedicated to Spanish designer Teresa Helbig and her emblematic work. On the other hand, Casa de México will showcase “Black Cloud”, an impactful installation created by Carlos Amorales featuring over 30,000 cut-out butterflies.
Unique experiences to close May
For those seeking something different, this weekend will also see the return of historic trains connecting Madrid with nearby cultural destinations. The Strawberry Train will offer a journey between Madrid and Aranjuez accompanied by gastronomic tastings, while the Cervantes Train will provide a theatrical experience towards Alcalá during the Golden Age.
