A literary weekend in Madrid
This weekend, Madrid transforms into a true literary paradise with the simultaneous celebration of two free book fairs. The districts of Arganzuela and Chamartín will be the epicentre of cultural activities that promise to attract book lovers of all ages. Coinciding with Book Day, these fairs offer a unique opportunity to discover new works, interact with authors, and enjoy a festive outdoor atmosphere.
The V Arganzuela Book Fair, which will take place from April 23 to 26, will be held at the Madrid Río multi-purpose esplanade (Paseo de la Chopera, 6). This free event will feature a varied programme including literary presentations, poetry recitals, and children's theatre. One of the highlights will be the public reading of the classic Don Quixote, an intergenerational activity organised by Social Services.
Throughout the weekend, attendees will also be able to enjoy the family theatre titled Inventing the Story, designed for children from 4 years old. Music will also be featured, with a concert by the Orchestra of the Network, composed of local students. Additionally, there will be storytelling sessions and various literary activities aimed at the youngest.
Meanwhile, the Chamartín district will host the IX Book Fair, which will take place in the Berlin Park and the Nicolás Salmerón Cultural Centre. This edition is special as it celebrates the 120th anniversary of Nobel Prize winner Santiago Ramón y Cajal, incorporating a scientific approach to many scheduled activities.
Recognised names such as Juan Gómez-Jurado and Bárbara Montes will be present to participate in talks and signing sessions. The programme will also include children's workshops, family theatre, and creative activities such as making ex-libris or bibliographic repairs. These initiatives are designed to foster a love of reading from an early age.
Both in Arganzuela and Chamartín, the fairs will not only be spaces to acquire books; they will also offer informative talks, literary presentations, and direct meetings between authors and readers. This approach aims to create an enriching environment where everyone can share their passion for literature.
