A Vibrant Weekend in Madrid
The Spanish capital is gearing up for a weekend full of cultural, gastronomic, and charitable activities that promise to attract both locals and visitors alike. From comic fairs to art exhibitions, Madrid offers a wide variety of plans for all tastes.
One of the standout events is the Madrid Comic Fair, which will take place from March 26 to 29 at Matadero Madrid. This free event will bring together both national and international authors, offering workshops, signings, and screenings. With 36 booths managed by specialized bookstores, comic lovers will find an ideal space to immerse themselves in their passion.
Aside from comics, several free exhibitions are open to the public. At the Alcalá 31 Hall, visitors can see the exhibition Jordi Teixidor. No Res, showcasing nearly 50 works by the renowned abstract artist. On the other hand, the Espacio Serrería Belga hosts Menchu Gal. Images of a Life, dedicated to the first woman awarded the National Painting Prize.
Not only will visual arts be present; the World Theatre Day, celebrated at the Teatro Fernán Gómez on March 26 and 27, will offer special activities such as commented readings and guided tours. Additionally, the Juan March Foundation will screen classic films for free on Fridays and Saturdays at 6:00 PM.
Starting from March 28, the Espacio Puerta del Ángel will host the international exhibition Euphoria – Art is in the Air. This exhibition will feature interactive inflatable installations created by contemporary artists and will be open until September 6. For those seeking more dynamic experiences, the Movistar Space offers the free experience Fansong, focused on interactive sports.
As Holy Week approaches, Madrid begins to vibrate with sacred music concerts and processions scheduled until April 5. This Friday, the traditional changing of the guard at the Army General Headquarters will take place at 12:00 PM on Calle Alcalá.
We must not forget to mention the charity festival Magic for Benin, which celebrates its sixteenth edition from March 27 to 29 at the Polytechnic University. This show combines visual magic with grand illusions, all aimed at funding children's education in Benin.
Meanwhile, Malasaña will be the setting for the Materia Market – Spring Edition, where independent creators will showcase their products from fashion to ceramics throughout the weekend. Additionally, Boadilla del Monte invites everyone to enjoy its Tapas Route with tapas for just three euros.
There is no better way to celebrate the arrival of spring than by visiting the Royal Botanical Garden during its annual peak tulip bloom. With over 23,000 bulbs planted this winter, visitors will be able to delight in this colourful explosion just before Holy Week.
