A new proposal for healthy eating
The coalition Más Madrid has decided to shift the conversation about food and sustainability by adopting an iconic phrase from the regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso. This Friday, in Getafe, the event titled ‘We like fruit: a healthy, sustainable, and affordable diet’ will take place, aiming to foster a dialogue about responsible eating practices.
The expression ‘I like fruit’ became popular after an incident in the Congress of Deputies where Ayuso was caught on camera in a moment that generated confusion. Although her team clarified that she had not insulted President Pedro Sánchez, the phrase has evolved into a political symbol. Now, Más Madrid takes this slogan and gives it a new meaning within the context of healthy eating.
Ana González Mariscal, municipal spokesperson for Más Madrid, has emphasized that ‘what we eat is a political act’. The day will not only focus on promoting a more balanced diet but also on opening a space to reflect on how our food choices impact the environment. The political formation considers it crucial to address how we produce our food and which production systems are more sustainable.
Jesús Pérez, councillor for Ecological Transition and Environment, has stressed that ‘the climate crisis cannot be understood without analyzing how we feed ourselves’. During the event, topics such as ethical and local consumption will be discussed, as well as ways to move towards more responsible agricultural systems. This initiative aims not only to educate citizens about their food choices but also to empower them to demand structural changes in the current food system.
Más Madrid hopes that this event will serve as a catalyst for future initiatives related to sustainability and public health. By inviting citizens to actively participate in these conversations, they aim to build a more conscious community about the impact of their daily decisions.
