This event aims to revive the essence of the venue that hosted legendary bands such as Green Day, Pearl Jam, and Rage Against the Machine. The celebration will take place in the same location where unforgettable chords once resonated, located at Calle Galileo 26. The initiative has been driven by former collaborators and fans who wish to remember the cultural impact this venue had.
Opened between 1991 and 1992, the Revólver Room was conceived by Santi Camuñas and his partners Jorge Gómez and Álvaro Ruiz. From its inception, the space stood out for offering daily concerts, quickly becoming a meeting point for music lovers. Its name is a direct reference to the famous Beatles album, reflecting its characteristic retro focus of that era. In its short but intense trajectory, Revólver was not only a concert hall; it also functioned as a nightclub and organised markets where records, fanzines, and Mexican food could be found.
Throughout its five years of existence, Revólver hosted international artists looking to connect with the Madrid audience. According to Javier Vargas, an internationally recognised Spanish guitarist: "Many bands played at Revólver. That venue was impressive. It wasn't very big, but it was an amazing place." This statement highlights how the size of the venue did not limit its ability to attract exceptional talent.
The festive atmosphere was an integral part of the venue's appeal. Iván, the owner of a nearby hair salon during those golden years, recalls: "Revólver was party, party, party." The eclectic mix of attendees included everyone from rockers to aristocrats and international artists like Lenny Kravitz or Björk, who frequented the flamenco nights organised by Camuñas every Monday.
Despite its definitive closure in 1996, the cultural legacy left by the Revólver Room endures in the collective memory of Madrid. As time passes and social changes in Madrid lead to more domesticated and less alternative spaces, such cultural initiatives gain greater historical relevance.
The tribute scheduled for July will include live musical performances that evoke those vibrant days filled with creative energy and artistic innovation. Organisers hope to attract both those who lived through that era and new generations interested in discovering Madrid's recent musical history.
