A record year for investment in Madrid
The Community of Madrid, under the leadership of Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has achieved impressive figures in attracting foreign investment during the year 2025. With a total nearing 16 billion euros, Madrid has managed to capture 51.9% of the national total, meaning that more than one in every two euros invested in Spain comes from this region.
In contrast, the situation is quite different for Catalonia, led by Salvador Illa. This community has only managed to attract 4.51 billion euros, which represents just 14.7% of the national total. The difference is overwhelming: nearly 12 billion less than its Madrid competitor.
Throughout the fourth quarter of last year, Madrid continued its upward trend by receiving nearly 5.236 billion euros, representing 47.6% of the foreign capital that arrived in Spain during that period. The most attractive sectors for investors have been advertising and market research (20.2%), real estate activities (11.7%), and telecommunications (8.9%). These figures reflect a clear preference for areas with high growth and profitability potential.
Various countries have shown notable interest in investing in Madrid. The United States leads this ranking with an impressive 28.7%, followed by France (14.9%) and the United Kingdom (11.8%). Additionally, operations carried out by Madrid entities in other countries have also been significant; they reached 8.95 billion euros, which equates to 51.7% of the total in Spain.
As 2025 progresses, it is clear that Madrid is not only positioning itself as a nerve centre for foreign investment but also as an economic benchmark within the country. With a clear and attractive strategy for international investors, the autonomous community seems to be laying the groundwork for an even more promising future.
