A boost towards digitalisation
The Community of Madrid has taken a significant step towards business modernisation by advising nearly 900 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and public bodies in their digital transformation. This effort is part of the EDIH Madrid Region programme, selected by the European Commission to promote digitalisation in the business and institutional sectors.
Since its inception in 2022, the consortium leading this project has acted as a key meeting point for professionals, entrepreneurs, and educational centres. With an investment of approximately three million euros, sourced from European funds, over 2,500 advisory sessions have been conducted, benefiting various entities in the public and private sectors.
Through the Digital Maturity Assessment (DMA), 872 organisations have evaluated their technological level, allowing them to identify areas for improvement. Of these, 670 have had the opportunity to test new tools before making significant investments, while 607 received financial advice to enhance their growth.
In addition to individualised advice, the programme has organised a total of 330 training actions. These initiatives aim to expand collaborative networks among businesses and foster commercial opportunities. So far, around 1,600 professionals have participated in these training sessions, strengthening their digital skills.
As of last January, the second phase of the EDIH Madrid Region project commenced, with a renewed focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI). This phase has an expanded budget of 5.7 million euros, with the ambitious goal of supporting 1,000 companies in their innovative processes and offering over 1,500 specialised services.
A notable new feature is the upcoming AI Helpdesk, where businesses and administrations will be able to receive guidance on how to integrate advanced technologies into their daily operations.
Various entities are involved in this consortium driven by the regional government. Among them are academic institutions such as Carlos III University, Polytechnic University of Madrid, as well as organisations like EIT Digital Spain and PONS IP. Relevant business associations representing key sectors within the Madrid economic fabric are also participating.
