An unstoppable growth in the Madrid labour market
The Community of Madrid has reached a significant milestone in its labour market, registering over 3.8 million active workers. This increase not only reflects the economic resilience of the region but also positions Madrid as an undisputed leader in job creation at the national level.
In a context where entrepreneurship is becoming increasingly relevant, nearly 22,000 new self-employed individuals have decided to start their activities in the region. This phenomenon not only represents an injection of dynamism into the labour market but also opens new opportunities for local economic development.
The regional president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has expressed her gratitude towards the entrepreneurs and self-employed individuals who have contributed to this growth. “We are talking about 3,800,000 people working in Madrid. Thanks to all those who create jobs,” she stated during a visit to the new health centre in Parla.
The data is compelling: Madrid has generated one in five new jobs in Spain over the past year, which amounts to an impressive 21.5%. This translates to more than 300 new positions daily, thus consolidating the region as a fundamental pillar for the Spanish economy.
Despite the notable employment growth, the figures also reveal a slight increase in unemployment. In March, 282,625 people were registered as unemployed, which represents a 0.12% increase compared to the previous month. However, compared to the same month last year, unemployment has significantly decreased by 11,192 people, representing a drop of 3.81%.
With nearly 3.9 million affiliates to Social Security, Madrid not only leads labour growth but also becomes a benchmark for other autonomous communities. The Minister of Economy and Employment, Rocío Albert, highlighted these achievements as proof of the joint effort between institutions and citizens to strengthen the business fabric and promote new employment initiatives.
