The municipality of Móstoles has recorded a significant decrease in unemployment, reaching for the first time in 20 years fewer than 9,000 jobless individuals. This figure reflects the positive impact of local policies on job creation.
Móstoles has marked a milestone in its labour history by registering a total of 8,980 unemployed in July, a figure that represents a decrease of 38 people compared to the previous month and that for the first time falls below the symbolic barrier of 9,000 unemployed. This decrease is detailed in the latest unemployment report published by the Community of Madrid, highlighting a positive trend in the municipality's labour market.
Of the registered unemployed, 3,542 are men and 5,438 are women, indicating a higher female proportion among the jobless. When analysing economic sectors, it is observed that the services sector accounts for the majority of unemployment with 7,101 people without work. Following this are construction with 680 unemployed, industry with 544, and finally, agriculture with only 69 unemployed. These data reflect the specific labour dynamics of the area and suggest areas where more initiatives could be implemented to promote employment.
Year-on-year, Móstoles has seen a reduction in unemployment compared to July of last year, when there were 106 more people without jobs. This progress is interpreted as a clear indicator of the success of municipal policies aimed at improving working conditions and fostering entrepreneurship.
The mayor, Manuel Bautista, has expressed his satisfaction with these results, stating that “the municipal policies to boost employment are yielding results.” Bautista highlighted the importance of supporting entrepreneurship and active management through the local Employment Agency, which offers personalised interviews to job seekers. These measures have been key to continuing to reduce unemployment figures and generate better opportunities for Móstoles families.
Despite the progress made, Bautista emphasised that there is still work to be done: “These figures motivate us to continue working in the same direction and to ensure that more and more residents of Móstoles can find employment.” The local administration appears committed to continuing to implement effective strategies to maintain this downward trend.
