The Patronal Festivals in Leganés will feature a robust security operation from August 7 to 16. The Local Police and Civil Protection are preparing to ensure the safety of thousands of attendees.
Leganés is preparing to welcome thousands of visitors during the Patronal Festivals in honour of Our Lady of Butarque, which will take place from August 7 to 16. In order to ensure the peace and well-being of attendees, the City Council has implemented a special operation that will involve nearly 340 Local Police agents. This operation not only includes a strong police presence but also advanced technology such as a surveillance system and drones. The Councillor for Citizen Security, Almudena González, highlighted that this year the system installed in the Fairgrounds and around the Bullring will be used again, allowing for more effective control during the festivities. "Safety is our priority," González stated. The operation also includes the installation of a Violet Point to provide support regarding gender violence, thus reaffirming the local government's commitment to comprehensive protection during these mass events. Additionally, a field hospital with five operational beds and six medicalised ambulances will be ready for any eventuality. The combination of human and technological resources aims to prevent incidents and respond quickly to any critical situation. Compared to previous years, this deployment is similar to last year’s but with significant improvements in available material resources. On the other hand, the Environment Delegation has designed a special plan to keep the streets and public spaces clean before, during, and after the festive event. 216 shifts have been scheduled for workers responsible for urban cleaning, in addition to the intensive use of electric vehicles and specialised machinery to ensure efficient cleaning. Councillor Violeta Bonet emphasised the importance of citizen commitment: "We ask businesses and hospitality to collaborate by taking their waste to the designated containers." This joint effort between local authorities and citizens is crucial for fully enjoying the festivities without setbacks.
