An Innovative Initiative for the Summer
This summer, the Community of Madrid will launch a unique proposal aimed at fostering digital disconnection among young people. Named Airplane Mode Camps, this initiative's main goal is to prevent addiction to excessive mobile phone use among teenagers aged 12 to 17.
The camps, which will take place from June to August, will offer a total of 180 places. Participants will enjoy an experience without technological devices for a period ranging from seven to fifteen days. This disconnection will allow young people to immerse themselves in outdoor activities, creative workshops, and sports.
In addition to recreational activities, the program will include educational workshops focused on the responsible use of technology. Experts from the Technology Addiction Support Service (SAAT) will conduct sessions on social media, video games, and digital coexistence, providing valuable tools to navigate the digital world safely.
The camps will be held in various facilities within the region, including youth hostels located in El Escorial, Rascafría, and Cercedilla, as well as at the Finca El Encín in Alcalá de Henares. There will also be opportunities to participate in camps outside Madrid, covering autonomous communities such as the Basque Country, Cantabria, and Galicia.
Among the many scheduled activities are disciplines related to nautical activities, cinema, photography, and science. Dynamics linked to performing arts such as musical theatre and urban dance will also be offered. These experiences are designed not only to entertain but also to culturally enrich the young participants.
Those interested in participating can submit their applications starting Monday until the next 5th of April, using the portal set up by the Community of Madrid. This is a unique opportunity for teenagers to step away from the digital world and discover new passions while making friends.
