The Community of Madrid has restarted the expansion of Hispanidad School following the transfer of the contract to a new contractor. This decision aims to avoid further delays and ensure the start of the next school year.
The expansion works of the public Hispanidad School in Rivas Vaciamadrid have been resumed after the initially contracted company abandoned the project, causing a series of delays. The Ministry of Education, Science and Universities of the Community of Madrid took measures to ensure that the work resumes without further delays, as a significant increase in the number of students is expected for the 2026-2027 academic year.
The situation began when the awarded construction company communicated its inability to continue with the work, thus requesting a voluntary transfer of the contract to another company. After evaluating this request, the technicians from the Ministry determined that this option was the most suitable to ensure the continuity of the project and minimise the impact on families and students.
With this decision, the new company has resumed the work, with a clear objective of completing the expansion as soon as possible. This progress is crucial as it is planned to incorporate two new preschool units to accommodate a larger number of students.
In the middle of this month, Mercedes Zarzalejo, the regional councillor, sent a reassuring message to the families affected by the delays. Last April, a group of parents had staged a sit-in at the school as a form of protest against the halt in construction. The concern among families was palpable due to the potential impact this could have on the start of the new school year.
The local council also expressed its willingness to collaborate with the Community and facilitate the swift completion of the work. However, it was ultimately decided to transfer the existing contract to another construction company to avoid further complications.
