Madrid launches aid of up to 4,235 euros for families with children in private nurseries

A crucial support for family reconciliation

The Madrid City Council has taken a significant step towards improving family reconciliation by opening the application period for the child grant plus for the 2026-2027 academic year. This initiative is designed to assist families with children aged between 0 and 3 years who are enrolled in private centres within the city.

The grants, which fall under the 2024-2029 Birthrate and Reconciliation Promotion Plan, aim to alleviate the costs associated with early childhood education. Families can receive up to 4,235 euros annually, depending on their economic situation and the number of members in the household.

The call for applications establishes three different tiers based on per capita income:

• First tier: For incomes between 0 and 10,420 euros, a monthly aid of 385 euros is offered.
• Second tier: For incomes between 10,420 and 17,020 euros, 220 euros monthly is allocated.
• Third tier: For those with incomes between 17,020 and 30,000 euros, a monthly aid of 118 euros is provided.

All these amounts will be paid from September 2026 to July 2027, allowing families to better plan their educational expenses.

However, there are certain requirements that must be met to access these grants. Applicants must be parents or legal guardians of a child born between the year 2024 and the first day of the current school year (January 1, 2027). Additionally, it is essential that the child is enrolled or has a reservation at a private centre authorised by the Madrid educational administration.

Furthermore, applicants must have been registered in Madrid for at least two years prior to the application and cannot have pending municipal grants or be subject to prohibitions under the General Subsidies Law.

A notable new feature is that the City Council will maintain the advanced bimonthly payment system for the grants, meaning families will not have to advance the total costs of the school year, thus facilitating their access to these essential educational services.

For this new school cycle, an approximate total of 6.9 million euros has been allocated, representing a significant increase compared to the previous year (1.8 million more). Since its inception in the 2019-2020 academic year, this programme has seen its budget grow more than double (109%), reflecting a clear commitment from the City Council towards Madrid families.
