Starting in August, Parla will begin implementing its Low Emission Zone, which will include parking meters and cameras. This measure aims to improve air quality and will be applied without permanent traffic restrictions.
Parla will commence at the end of August the works to establish its Low Emission Zone (LEZ), a project that includes the horizontal signage of regulated parking in the urban area. The first phase will consist of painting the parking spaces, a task that will last approximately five weeks. Subsequently, elements such as control cameras, parking meters, and informative panels about air quality will be installed. The aim is to reduce the impact on daily mobility during this period. Mayor Ramón Jurado has highlighted that it will not be necessary to remove vehicles or close streets during this initial phase, although there will be progressive impacts on the roads within the perimeter defined by streets such as Felipe II and Juan XXIII. Unlike other municipalities in Madrid, Parla will not implement permanent traffic restrictions; these will only be activated occasionally during severe pollution episodes. Furthermore, residents with vehicles registered in Parla will be exempt from paying for parking in the regulated area if they meet the requirement of the Tax on Mechanical Traction Vehicles (IVTM). The LEZ responds to European regulations for cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants and is co-financed through Next Generation EU funds. This project has been developed progressively from its regulatory ordinance drafted in 2023 to its final approval in 2024. To ensure proper implementation, the City Council will carry out an informative campaign aimed at both residents and merchants.
