The City Council of Rivas Vaciamadrid has sent the project to the Community of Madrid to cover 2.5 kilometres of Line 9B. This work aims to improve mobility and connect separated areas of the municipality.
Rivas Vaciamadrid has taken a significant step towards transforming its railway infrastructure by sending the project to cover the tracks of Line 9B of the Metro to the Community of Madrid. This ambitious plan, which covers a stretch of 2.5 kilometres between the stations of Rivas Urbanizaciones and Rivas Futura, aims to eliminate a physical barrier that currently divides the municipality between its residential and industrial zones. The documentation sent includes not only the construction plans but also a study on the alternative bus service that will be implemented during the works.
The proposal includes a continuous structure made up of prefabricated side walls and a top slab that will allow the line to remain operational for much of the construction process. Additionally, all necessary facilities will be incorporated to ensure the proper functioning of the Metro, including ventilation systems and evacuation routes.
Once the work is completed, the space freed up on the surface will be transformed into a green corridor, with a total length of 2.5 kilometres and an approximate width of 30 metres. This new space will be designed for use by citizens, offering resting areas and connecting directly with the Linear Park from the Cerro del Telégrafo sports complex.
Aside from the construction project, the City Council has included in its submission to the Community a detailed analysis of how the substitute bus service will be carried out during the works. This is crucial to minimise inconvenience to regular Metro users while the necessary improvements are made.
No less important is the municipal economic capacity to carry out this project. The local government has assured that it has funding from the Council of Europe Development Bank, in addition to having recently approved a budget modification in the municipal plenary that will allow the initiation of the first phases of construction.
As Rivas Vaciamadrid progresses in this process, it is now up to the regional Executive to validate all this documentation. The execution of the covering is a fundamental part of the Rivas Urban Agenda 2030, which aims to significantly improve urban mobility and connect currently isolated spaces.
