Electoral Preparations in Pozuelo de Alarcón
In an atmosphere marked by the imminent electoral contest, the secretary general of the Madrid PP, Alfonso Serrano, visited Pozuelo de Alarcón to inspect municipal housing works aimed at young people. Accompanied by the mayor Paloma Tejero, Serrano highlighted the importance of popular mayors focusing on the future of their municipalities, in contrast to what he considers an excessive concern of the central government for its own judicial interests.
Serrano did not hold back in his criticism of the government led by Pedro Sánchez, pointing out that its attention is more focused on the judicial processes affecting its members than on the real needs of citizens. “While Spain is going through a dramatic situation, the government seems more interested in its judicial future than in solving problems like access to housing,” he stated during his visit.
The leader of the Madrid PP emphasised that the mayors of his party have been working hard to improve the quality of life for their neighbours. “It’s not just about managing what exists, but about aspiring to a better future for our municipalities,” he stressed. In this regard, he mentioned initiatives such as the Plan Joven, designed to facilitate access to affordable housing, as a direct response to the concerns expressed by citizens.
Serrano also emphasised how some municipal projects are taking on responsibilities that traditionally fall on entities like ADIF. This includes significant works such as a tunnel under the Cercanías train tracks, which reflects an active commitment from the local government to address complex urban challenges.
The visit to Pozuelo is part of a broader series aimed at assessing and reinforcing the PP's presence in various municipalities ahead of the regional and municipal elections scheduled for a year from now. This deployment seeks to consolidate the party's image under the regional leadership of Isabel Díaz Ayuso, contrasting its administrative model with what they consider a lack of clear direction from the current government.
As the elections approach, Alfonso Serrano and other popular leaders seem determined to present a solid alternative to what they perceive as governmental deficiencies. With a renewed focus on local needs and a strong critique of the central executive, the PP aims to position itself favourably before Madrid voters.
