A report from the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard has revealed that Alberto González Amador, partner of the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, is being investigated for alleged irregularities in the contracts that his company, Masterman & Whitaker, signed with Quirón Prevención. According to the document, the operational capabilities of his company do not justify the work billed to the healthcare giant.
Details of the report and accusations
The report claims that González Amador acquired Masterman & Whitaker in 2020 for half a million euros from Gloria Carrasco, wife of the president of Quirón Prevención, Fernando Camino. However, prior to this purchase, the company had barely any assets and its billing was less than 30,000 euros. Despite this, a year after the acquisition and following the start of his relationship with Ayuso, revenues skyrocketed to 327,300 euros, all from contracts with Quirón.
The UCO has pointed out that Masterman & Whitaker only had three basic instruments for aesthetic treatments and a laptop. It had no registered employees or capacity to carry out the services for which it billed Quirón. This scenario has led authorities to suspect that there may have been a crime of money laundering.
“The indications suggest that these contracts could be simulated,” the report states.
Aside from the analysis conducted by the UCO, a recent report issued by the Tax Agency has also cast doubt on the business operations between the companies linked to González Amador and Quirón Prevención. From 2021 to 2023, these companies are estimated to have billed a total of approximately 4.4 million euros, which has raised suspicions about possible illicit agreements behind these transactions.
The Tax Agency has requested Judge Antonio Viejo to temporarily suspend an ongoing tax inspection against the businessman’s companies to focus efforts on investigating the specific contracts made with the Quirón Group. This request is based on the argument that the results could significantly influence the legal future of the investigated party.
As this investigation progresses, it is expected that Fernando Camino will also be called to testify before the judge. So far, only González Amador and Carrasco have appeared. The political implications are significant given Ayuso's prominent role as regional president and leader of the Popular Party in Madrid.
The accusations raised not only directly affect Ayuso's inner circle but also the Madrid political system in general. The situation scrutinises the relationships between politics and private business in Spain as new details about this complex case continue to emerge.
