A new media scandal
Presenter and model Alba Carrillo has once again become the centre of attention following her recent statements about the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, during a broadcast of El Sótano Club, a show aired on TEN. Her words have sparked a wave of criticism on social media, where many users have questioned the disrespect in her comments.
During Wednesday's programme, the collaborators were discussing a photograph of the mayor with his son Lucas. It was at that moment that Carrillo expressed her disdain for the child's name, stating: «I prefer to call dogs Lucas than Almeida's son, honestly». This declaration was just the beginning of a torrent of criticism directed at the mayor's figure.
As the conversation progressed, Carrillo continued her observations about the name Lucas, describing it as modern and full of character. However, what truly ignited the controversy was her final comment: «If this man hadn't been mayor, he would have died a virgin«. These words were interpreted by many as a personal and derogatory attack on Almeida.
Reactions came swiftly. On Twitter, users expressed their outrage at what they considered an inappropriate and out-of-place comment. One user remarked: «Interesting. ‘If Alba were a virgin, she would have died without working’. A completely denounceable phrase today». Another added: «Regardless of ideology or political colour, resorting to physical or personal mockery to attack someone shows an absolute lack of arguments».
This incident once again raises the issue of respect in public debate and how media figures use their platform to make comments that can be seen as offensive or degrading.
