Alcorcón is preparing for its patron saint festivities with a robust security operation that will include an average of 118 police officers per day. The celebrations will commence on September 3, and the City Council has implemented this measure to ensure the peace and enjoyment of attendees. The mayor, Candelaria Testa, emphasized the importance of the work done throughout the year to provide safe festivities free from gender-based violence.
The operation will involve collaboration from the Local Police, National Police, Civil Protection, and Firefighters. More than 70 officers will be available in afternoon and night shifts, times when a higher influx of the public is expected at the fairgrounds, where concerts and various activities will take place.
Since 2019, the City Council has taken significant measures to improve safety during these festivities. Access to the fairgrounds has been restricted, additional private security has been hired, and seven operational cameras have been installed to monitor the area 24/7. Furthermore, a public address system connected to the booths has been implemented to alert about any health or security incidents.
A highlighted aspect of the operation is the maintenance of the Punto Violeta, an initiative aimed at preventing gender-based violence during the celebrations. This action is part of the local government's commitment to inclusive and safe festivities for all citizens.
The Government delegate in Madrid, Francisco Martín, also pointed out that Alcorcón has a crime rate eleven points below the regional average. This figure reflects a relatively safe environment for residents and visitors during the festivities. Additionally, 16 new officers have recently joined the local National Police force.
