A historic visit to Madrid
The city of Madrid is preparing for an unprecedented event: the arrival of Pope Leo XIV, scheduled from 6 to 9 June. This occasion will not only attract thousands of faithful but also requires the active collaboration of the local community. The Archdiocese has launched an ambitious call to action, seeking 10,000 volunteers who wish to participate in this significant visit.
Those interested in joining this initiative can register through the platform conelpapa.es, where they will need to complete a form with their personal details. The organisation will assign specific roles according to the needs of the event, ranging from logistical tasks to support during the main events.
This is not just about being present during the ceremonies; collaboration is also sought for preparatory work and logistical support. Furthermore, those who wish to contribute can offer resources such as transport, materials, or even accommodation for pilgrims arriving from different parts of the country.
Despite the widespread enthusiasm, there are certain requirements that must be met to be part of the team. It is essential to be linked to an ecclesiastical institution within the dioceses of Madrid, Alcalá de Henares, or Getafe. This connection is necessary to validate the registration and subsequently manage participation.
Additionally, volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Minors aged 16 to 17 will need authorisation from their legal guardians, a process that will be managed later.
Given the expectation of mass travel to Madrid during those days, the offer of accommodation by the people of Madrid takes on special relevance. The Church is promoting this option as an integral part of the organisational plan, inviting citizens to open their homes to those travelling from afar.
Unlike Barcelona, where registration has already closed due to the high number of volunteers signed up, Madrid still has space available for those wishing to actively participate in this historic event. The Archdiocese hopes to have a broad community representation to meet the logistical and spiritual demands that the papal visit entails.
