A recognition of female bravery
On March 8, Madrid will dress up to celebrate International Women's Day, an event that not only commemorates the achievements made but also highlights the current struggles for equality and human rights. On this occasion, the Community of Madrid has decided to award one of its prestigious prizes to Iranian women, highlighting their courage in challenging oppression in their country.
The award will be presented during a ceremony presided over by Isabel Díaz Ayuso, president of the regional government, who has expressed that this recognition symbolizes the "courage and determination" of Iranian women in their fight for democratic reforms. Activist Arezoo Mojaverian, representative of the movement, will collect the award accompanied by members of the association ‘The Voice of Iran’, thus underscoring the global impact of the feminist movement in Iran.
In addition to the tribute to Iranian women, other prominent figures will receive recognitions. Mexican politician Alessandra Rojo de la Vega, mayor of Cuauhtémoc and tireless advocate for women's rights, will be awarded for her work in combating violence against women. Her efforts have been fundamental in raising awareness of critical situations and promoting concrete actions to protect victims.
This edition will also recognise Ausonia, a company committed to women's health at all stages. Its work includes educational campaigns on breast cancer and other social initiatives aimed at empowering women. Additionally, Alba Pau, owner of the Can Pau restaurant in Ibiza, will be honoured for her dedication to social causes and support for minors who are victims of abuse.
No less important are the recognitions awarded to two prominent scientists: Isabel Calvo, a doctor in Biomedicine and amateur world champion in mixed martial arts, and Eva Nogales, a doctor in Biophysics known internationally for her contributions to cancer research. Both represent the crucial role women play in fields traditionally dominated by men.
Finally, gynecologist Juan Vidal, head of the Gynecology department at Ruber Internacional hospital, will be recognised along with the magazine ‘Yo Dona’ for his commitment to women's health. This event is not only a tribute to the past and present of women; it is a call to continue fighting for a future where all voices are heard.
