A New Era for Las Cruces Park
Las Cruces Park, located between the districts of Carabanchel and Latina, is about to enter a decisive phase of its comprehensive rehabilitation. This project aims not only to beautify the surroundings but also to promote community interaction and physical activity among residents. With a significant investment, these improvements are expected to transform the park into a vital meeting point for the community.
One of the most notable aspects of this final phase is the creation of a cycle path that will connect the existing route in the park with the lane on Joaquín Turina Street. This connection is crucial, as there is currently an interrupted section that limits safe access for cyclists. Additionally, renovations will be carried out at the park entrances, especially in the area near the Aluche petrol station, where stairs will be replaced with suitable ramps to facilitate access for all users.
The transformation of the park includes the construction of various outdoor facilities aimed at attracting families and sports enthusiasts. Among the new features are two petanque courts, a children's area equipped with a zip line and a climbing wall that will reach 2.40 meters. A dog area will also be established, specifically designed for pets to exercise properly.
Regarding the environmental aspect of the project, it is planned to plant 70 new trees and over 5,000 shrubs adapted to local climatic conditions. These species have been selected for their low water needs, which not only ensures their survival but also helps improve the environmental quality of the area. The careful selection aims to provide colour and landscape richness to the park.
Not only will the green areas receive attention; all urban furniture in the park will also be renewed. Benches made from recycled materials, picnic tables, and bike racks will be installed. To ensure safety during nighttime hours, all these areas will be illuminated with strategically placed LED lights along main paths and resting areas.
This ambitious project does not forget those with reduced mobility; it will include accessible routes with tactile pavement intended for blind individuals, as well as stairs equipped with secure handrails. The intention is to create an inclusive space where all citizens can enjoy without barriers.
