Million-Euro Investments for a Sustainable Future
The City Council of Madrid has announced an ambitious investment of around €19 million aimed at the revitalisation and improvement of Villa de Vallecas during the year 2026. This comprehensive plan seeks to transform six green areas of the district, as well as complete important projects that have been underway since previous years.
A significant portion of the budget, approximately €6.4 million, will be allocated to the development of the new neighbourhood in Valdecarros. This project includes the construction of the first homes by the end of this year, with an initial investment of €1.5 million to prepare the developable land. Additionally, work will continue on the road extension that will connect Valdecarros with Villa de Vallecas, although most of the funding will be concentrated in 2027.
The new urban route will facilitate the connection between Avenida del Mayorazgo and Calle Dos Provisional in Atalayuela. Furthermore, progress will be made on the works for the Gran Vía del Sureste, a boulevard that will interconnect the six planned developments in the area. Significant work has already been completed in the southern section in the Ensanche de Vallecas.
Aside from urban development, two key projects are scheduled for completion this year: one focused on the historic centre and another near Santa Eugenia. The works in the inter-block spaces of Colonia Urpisa are moving towards completion following a comprehensive renovation that includes sidewalk expansion and pavement renewal. On the other hand, nearly €900,000 is allocated to improve the Federico García Lorca promenade, emphasising pedestrian comfort.
Within the overall framework aimed at rehabilitating more than €25 million for parks and gardens at the capital level, Villa de Vallecas will receive special attention with six specific actions. Plans are in place to improve pathways and resting areas within the Ensanche; however, the exact locations for these improvements have yet to be specified.
Not only are road infrastructures receiving attention; there are also plans to build a new Family House in the Ensanche with an assigned budget of €3.8 million. This multifunctional centre will begin operating as a centralised point for various activities related to family and social support.
On the environmental front, initiatives within the Valdemingómez Technology Park will continue. The modernisation of the La Paloma centre dedicated to domestic waste treatment is expected to be completed, and deodorising systems worth €1.4 million will continue to be implemented, aiming to minimise odours arising from the recyclable process.
