BBVA, Telefónica, Indra and Fever participated in an event where 25 finalists presented their projects to recruitment managers from the tech sector.

The shortage of tech talent in Spain increasingly has specific scenarios where supply and demand meet directly. One such event took place on June 25 in Madrid: the Evolve Talent & Innovation Day, a day organised by the Madrid-based EdTech Evolve that brought together 15 companies, 25 finalists, and over 250 profiles from the tech ecosystem with a clear objective: to connect newly trained technical talent with the companies that seek them.

The list of participating companies illustrates the level of the event: BBVA, Telefónica, Indra, PepsiCo, Santalucía, Cloudflare, Leroy Merlin, Adecco, Michael Page, Fever, LLYC, Legends by La Liga, Wizink, Bondlabs, and Calconut. Twelve of them presented their projects, culture, and technological challenges in an Employer Branding segment before directly evaluating the finalists.

Why major companies attend such events

The interest of companies in meetings like this is not coincidental. Spain faces one of the largest shortages of tech talent in Europe, especially in disciplines such as artificial intelligence, data science, or cybersecurity, where the demand for qualified profiles is growing faster than the educational system can produce them. For recruitment departments, accessing a group of already trained, evaluated, and pre-selected candidates in a single afternoon represents an efficiency that is hard to match through conventional recruitment channels.

The format of the day is designed precisely to maximise that efficiency. After the corporate presentations, the 25 finalists —selected through a prior evaluation process and interviews with recruiters— defended their projects before a jury of hiring managers in an Elevator Pitch Challenge. This system allows companies to assess in real-time not only the technical knowledge of each profile but also their communication skills, confidence, and presentation style: competencies that a CV does not reflect and that are crucial for actual professional performance.

A matching that goes beyond the event

The day concluded with the Evolve Talent Awards, which recognised a student from the master's programme in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and included a networking space between talent and companies.

The relationship between Evolve and the attending companies does not begin at the event. Companies like Telefónica or Calconut already have professionals trained by the academy in their teams, reflecting a model based on a faculty of active professionals and a network of relationships with over 250 companies. This prior connection is what turns events like this into something more than a talent fair: they are the materialisation of an ongoing relationship between the company and the business fabric.

For companies, the meeting serves as a direct window to already trained talent ready to join. For students, it is an opportunity to gain visibility before dozens of recruitment managers and, often, to find their next professional opportunity.
