A laboratory for the future
The Community of Madrid has taken a significant step towards modernising public services by launching, in collaboration with the Government of Kazakhstan, the Global GovTech Lab. This innovative lab focuses on creating solutions based on artificial intelligence, aimed at optimising citizen services and improving administrative efficiency.
The project, which has been in the works for several months, brings together technical teams from both administrations. Its goal is to tackle challenges such as excessive bureaucracy, digital security, and data interoperability between nations. During its presentation at the GovTech 4 Impact World Congress, project leaders shared their progress and future goals.
Miguel López-Valverde, Madrid's Digitalisation Councillor, highlighted that this initiative reflects a clear intention from the regional government to foster international collaborations. “We want Madrid to be the node from which solutions that improve people's lives anywhere in the world are exported,” he stated during his speech alongside Dimitri Mun, Kazakhstan's Deputy Minister of Artificial Intelligence.
The Global GovTech Lab arises as a result of an agreement signed in October 2025 between the two administrations. With this joint effort, the aim is to establish Madrid as a global benchmark in the development and implementation of digital technologies applied to public management.
As this ambitious project progresses, it is expected that the solutions developed will not only benefit Madrid's citizens but also serve as a model for other regions around the world. The combination of local talent with international experiences promises to open new opportunities to transform how public services are delivered.
