Tourism in Madrid reached record figures in June, with nearly 885,000 international visitors. The combination of mass events such as Bad Bunny's concerts and the Pope's visit drove this growth.
Last June became a milestone for tourism in Madrid, recording 884,881 international visitors, representing an increase of 13.9% compared to the same month last year. This remarkable growth is mainly attributed to two cultural phenomena: the concerts of Bad Bunny and the visit of Pope León XIV, which together generated an unprecedented economic impact in the Spanish capital. According to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), this June was not only the best in terms of tourist influx but also marked a new historical record for the city.
The arrival of more than 107,712 additional international tourists compared to June 2025 has placed Madrid among the autonomous communities with the highest increase in the number of foreign visitors. This boom is due to a series of events that have revitalised interest in the city, including the Book Fair and Pride celebrations, in addition to the aforementioned mass concerts.
Tourists not only arrived in large numbers but also showed a remarkable willingness to spend during their stay. In total, tourist spending reached 1.86 billion euros, representing an increase of 7.3% compared to the previous year. Each visitor spent an average of around 288 euros per day, significantly contributing to the local hospitality and retail sectors.
The combined effect of the religious event and musical shows has been key to attracting both domestic and international tourists. In fact, even before the official start of summer, an increase in hotel prices had already been recorded; these rose by 8.3%, reaching an average of 281 euros per night according to data provided by SiteMinder.
This phenomenon is not isolated; Madrid has seen its appeal grow since the pandemic, becoming one of the most sought-after destinations for foreign travellers. So far, during the first half of the year, more than 5 million foreign visits have been recorded, representing a global increase of 9.4% compared to the same period in 2025.
The unique combination of pop culture and religion has proven to be a successful formula for revitalising Madrid's tourism. As summer progresses and other important events such as music festivals and cultural fairs approach, expectations are high regarding how this positive trend will continue.
For those interested in enjoying all that Madrid has to offer this summer, it is advisable to plan ahead due to high hotel demand and scheduled activities. Early bookings can ensure better rates and availability during this peak season.
