The Spanish capital welcomed 884,881 international tourists in June, marking a 13.9% increase compared to the previous year. This growth is attributed to events such as Bad Bunny's concerts and the Pope's visit.
During June, Madrid established itself as one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Europe by receiving 884,881 international tourists, representing an increase of 13.9% compared to the same month last year. This remarkable rise, equivalent to 107,712 more visitors, has been driven by the celebration of significant international events in the city, notably the 10 consecutive concerts by Bad Bunny at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano and the Pope's visit. These events have not only attracted national and international visitors but have also had a significant impact on the local economy.
According to data provided by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), the spending by tourists during this period reached 1.86 billion euros, representing an increase of 7.3% compared to the previous year. Each visitor spent an average of 288 euros per day, benefiting key sectors such as hotels, restaurants, and local shops.
The phenomenon generated by Bad Bunny's concerts has been particularly notable; its estimated economic impact amounts to around 213 million euros. More than 630,000 people attended the performances at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, leading to near-full hotel occupancy during those critical days. Additionally, railway operators like Ouigo reported over 186,000 trips related to these musical events.
This tourism boom is no coincidence; Madrid has worked hard to position itself as an attractive destination for major tours and international events. Historically considered a stop within the European circuit, the Spanish capital now presents itself as a city capable of hosting shows reserved for global metropolises like New York or London.
The Riyadh Air Metropolitano has played a crucial role in this strategic shift. This infrastructure serves not only as a sports venue but also as a cultural and musical centre during the summer, significantly contributing to economic dynamism and local employment without compromising its primary function.
As Madrid continues to attract major events and increase its international visibility, this positive trend is expected to continue in the coming months. For those interested in enjoying the vibrant atmosphere the city offers after these historic events, there are multiple options available to explore its cultural and recreational offerings.
