The inhabitants of the Community of Madrid are willing to spend an average of 1,347 euros during their summer holidays, thus exceeding the average of the rest of the country. This figure, revealed by the latest Cetelem Observatory, indicates a 4% increase compared to the previous year and reflects a notable intention of family consumption despite current economic uncertainties.

Travel intentions and tourist preferences

Approximately 80% of respondents in Madrid plan to organise some trip during the summer months. Although this figure has slightly decreased compared to previous years, it remains higher than the 75%% observed nationally. Madrileños who will actually travel plan to spend around 1,541 euros, representing an 11% increase.

Regarding budget distribution, accommodation and transport are the categories that absorb the most resources. Madrid residents will allocate approximately 737 euros for overnight stays, a figure that exceeds the national average by 21%%. On the other hand, investment in tickets or fuel will be lower, reaching about 275 euros, suggesting a preference for securing a comfortable place to rest.

As summer approaches, domestic tourism is gaining popularity among Madrileños. Three out of four respondents choose to explore destinations within the country, which represents a significant increase compared to previous years. Beach tourism remains the most chosen option for 75%% of travellers.

Aside from travelling, dining out is the most popular activity among those staying in Madrid during the holidays. This group also plans to spend around 583 euros, marking a notable year-on-year increase of 17%. Visits to the cinema and other recreational activities are also an important part of urban leisure.

However, the cost of living has influenced holiday decisions this year. One in five respondents has decided to stay home all summer for economic reasons; this percentage has increased significantly compared to previous years. Among those who choose not to travel, 75%% cite financial difficulties and rising costs as the main obstacles.

Despite not going away, many seek to enjoy their city: "Dining out remains our priority," some residents assert.

As the summer season progresses, these data reflect both economic resilience and adaptation to financial challenges for Madrid citizens. The combination of domestic travel and local enjoyment suggests a trend towards more accessible experiences without giving up leisure and personal enjoyment.
