The Community of Madrid on alert for heavy rainfall
This Thursday, the Community of Madrid has taken preventive measures in anticipation of the imminent arrival of intense rains and storms. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has raised the alert to orange level, indicating a significant risk in the Metropolitan and Henares areas. This decision comes after a detailed analysis of the weather conditions, which have shown a considerable deterioration.
According to forecasts, it is expected that over the next few hours, up to 30 litres per square metre will accumulate in various parts of the region. This volume of water could cause significant problems, especially in areas prone to flooding.
In light of this situation, emergency services have urged the public to exercise caution in their movements. It is advised to avoid the use of private vehicles whenever possible and to pay special attention when travelling on roads and underground passages, where the risk of water accumulation is higher.
Early in the day, AEMET had issued a yellow alert for rain across the Community between 12:00 and 21:00 hours. However, due to the rapid evolution of the weather, it was necessary to elevate this alert to orange level to ensure public safety.
The City Council has called on residents to closely follow the guidelines provided by the regional government. It is recommended to regularly check official channels for updates on the weather status and any additional measures that may be necessary during this adverse weather episode.
