There are heartthrobs who are born famous. Without the need for casting, without a camera test, without queuing for any reality show. Charo Vega is one of those cases, a woman who has spent her entire life in the media spotlight simply for being who she is: granddaughter of a legend, friend of the great divas, and an unwitting protagonist of some of the juiciest stories in Spanish social chronicles.

But who is Charo Vega really beyond the headlines? Let’s review her life, her loves, her children, and everything surrounding this essential figure of the television landscape.

Who is Charo Vega and how old is she?

María del Rosario Vega, known to everyone as Charo, was born in Madrid on September 27, 1957. At 68 years old, she continues to stir things up on set and grab headlines as if time has not passed for her. Although, to be fair, she has been through everything.

Charo is the granddaughter of the legendary Pastora Imperio, one of the most important flamenco dancers in the history of Spain, a silent film star, and a figure who once had a relationship with Alfonso XIII. Her paternal grandfather was the bullfighter Rafael Vega de los Reyes, nicknamed Gitanillo de Triana. With such a family background, it would have been unusual to lead a discreet life.

Her brother Curro Vega, who passed away in November 2023, was the father of actress Pastora Vega. So when we say that Charo belongs to one of the most powerful family dynasties in Spanish entertainment, we are not exaggerating one bit.

Charo Vega's partners: loves that marked her life

If there is one thing that defines Charo Vega's sentimental biography, it is intensity. This woman has never done anything halfway, and her relationships are proof of that.

From Serrat to Tony Caravaca

Before walking down the aisle, Charo was linked as a teenager with Joan Manuel Serrat. It was 1973, and she was already on the cover of Semana magazine due to that supposed romance. At just 17 years old, she married Fernando Jiménez Varela, a businessman from Marbella. The marriage lasted a short time, but from that union, her eldest daughter, Triana, was born.

Then came Tony Caravaca, probably the most important person in Charo's life. A representative of artists such as Lola Flores, Isabel Pantoja, and Ana Belén, Tony and Charo formed one of those legendary couples of Marbella nightlife during the 80s and 90s. They were together for 22 years and had three children: Maite, Antonio, and Curro. They separated in 2000, but always maintained a close relationship. So much so that Charo was by his side when Tony, who suffered from Alzheimer's, passed away on January 30, 2025.

After separating from Caravaca, Charo began a relationship with José Soto, Sorderita, guitarist of Ketama. Eleven years together ended in 2011 when he decided to return to his ex-wife. The breakup was a devastating blow that plunged her into one of the darkest periods of her life.

The children and grandchildren of Charo Vega

Charo is the mother of four children. The eldest, Triana Jiménez Vega, was born from her first marriage. The other three, Maite, Antonio, and Curro, are the result of her relationship with Tony Caravaca.

Triana is undoubtedly the most well-known. She worked for over a decade at the multinational Publicis and currently serves as a secretary at the DLR law firm in Seville, run by her husband. This law firm is unique in that all its employees are of Roma ethnicity, a rare case in Spain.

In April 2025, Triana married criminal lawyer Juan Silva de los Reyes in a civil ceremony in Seville. Guests included figures like Lolita Flores (Triana's godmother), Eugenia Martínez de Irujo, and Pastora Vega.

Triana is the mother of three children: Triana (a Nursing Assistant student), Manuel (known for defending his grandmother on Survivors 2022), and Rosario, the youngest. And it doesn't stop there: in April 2025, Charo announced live on TardeAR that her granddaughter Triana was pregnant, making her a great-grandmother at 68 years old.

Her time on television and the major controversies

Charo made her leap to television in 2011 as a collaborator on Sálvame. Her charisma made her an explosive presence. In one of her appearances, she revealed a supposed affair between Fran Rivera and Lolita Flores, which cost her a lawsuit for violation of the right to honour and a temporary distancing from Lolita.

Her friendship with Isabel Pantoja also blew up. They met thanks to Tony Caravaca and were close for over 30 years. But in 2013, when Charo was offered a seat on Sálvame Deluxe, Isabel asked her not to go. Charo went anyway, spoke about the singer, and the friendship was definitively broken.

In 2022, she participated in Survivors, where she became the first evicted of the edition. She later admitted that participating had been a mistake. Currently, Charo is a regular collaborator on TardeAR on Telecinco, where she has starred in surprising moments such as showing an unpublished photo album of Lola Flores or confessing that she carried part of Carmina Ordóñez's ashes in her bag for years. Yes, you read that right.

The addictions that nearly cost her life

Charo Vega has never hidden the hardest moments of her life. After her breakup with Sorderita, she fell into a spiral of addictions to alcohol, pills, and drugs that began, in her own words, at 40 years old in Ibiza. The situation became so severe that she had to enter a detox clinic and later suffered from a severe depression that kept her unwilling to get out of bed for months. Her daughter Triana was her great support throughout that process.

At 68 years old, with a great-granddaughter on the way, a fixed spot on television, and a past that could fill three novels (at least), this granddaughter of Pastora Imperio shows that strength and artistry run in her veins. Whether you like it or not, Charo Vega will always be a topic of conversation.
