A solution for night workers
The Barajas district has taken a significant step towards improving night mobility with the implementation of a new bus service that will connect Avenida de América with the terminals of Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport. This new ‘owl’, named N32, arises in response to the demands of over 40,000 workers who work night shifts at the airport and who until now faced difficulties accessing their workplaces.
The N32 line will begin operating tonight, offering a more accessible and economical alternative compared to the express N27 service, which has a high cost. The new route will maintain the standard fares of the other municipal lines, which represents a great advantage for users. With a frequency of 35 minutes during the week and 17-18 minutes on weekends, this bus promises to facilitate night travel.
Departures from Avenida de América are scheduled from 00:15 hours, while the first trip from T4 will be at 00:10 hours. The route includes strategic stops in Canillejas and at each of the terminals (T1, T2, and T3), before returning to its starting point.
Aside from the direct benefit for airport employees, this new line also aims to alleviate the congested local traffic. Residents have expressed their frustration over the excessive parking caused by travellers and employees who leave their vehicles for long periods. According to Jorge Osma, the socialist councillor of the district, this initiative will not only improve mobility but also encourage people to leave their cars at home, thus contributing to the care of the environment.
This reinforcement of public transport comes in a context where the demand for direct connections to the airport has been increasing. In 2025, it was reported that the express service to T4 exceeded one million annual passengers. This growing popularity has led to economic adjustments by the Regional Consortium of Transport to compensate for the decrease in metro users between Barajas and T4 due to direct competition with the buses.
As this new service is implemented, positive changes are expected for both workers and local residents. The community is keen to see how this measure will impact not only their daily quality of life but also how it could serve as a model for future similar initiatives in other metropolitan areas.
