A Cultural Feast in the Heart of Madrid
On 14 March, the Spanish capital will become the epicentre of Celtic culture with the celebration of the most important Celtic parade in the country. This annual event, which pays tribute to St. Patrick, will transform the iconic Gran Vía and its surroundings into a vibrant stage filled with music, dance, and Irish tradition.
More than 40 groups, along with hundreds of artists, will participate in this colourful parade. Among the highlights is the prestigious St. Laurence O’Toole Pipe Band, globally recognised for its mastery of the piping art. Additionally, Asturian groups such as the Banda de Gaitas de Covera d’Asturias and the Gaiteros de Felechas, as well as Galician and Aragonese bands, will join in, creating a unique fusion that celebrates Celtic roots.
This event is not only a tribute to the Irish patron; it is a true cultural gathering that combines traditional music with visual performances. Attendees will enjoy an impressive variety: bagpipes, drums, tambourines, and captivating choreographies. The inclusion of stilt walkers and performers promises to keep everyone entertained throughout the parade.
The festivities will begin a day earlier, on 13 March, with the official presentation of the event at 12:00 in Calle Montera. During this inaugural day, the “Guardian of St. Patrick” awards will also be presented. The grand parade day will start at 12:00 in Plaza Callao, where performances will kick off before the anticipated parade down Gran Vía scheduled for 17:00.
Closing this cultural celebration, the San Patricio Madrid Fest, scheduled for 20:00 in Plaza Callao, will bring together several participating bands to offer an unforgettable musical show. This festival is not only an opportunity to celebrate Irish culture but also to enjoy a festive atmosphere that unites people from various nationalities.
