A vibrant weekend in Madrid
The Spanish capital is preparing for a weekend full of life and colour, marked by the celebrations of San Isidro. This annual event is not only an opportunity to pay tribute to the patron saint of farmers, but also transforms Madrid into a cultural epicentre with activities for all tastes.
The Pradera de San Isidro will be the place where music comes to life. On Friday, May 9, attendees will be able to enjoy the talent of artist Serko, who will take the stage at 10:00 PM. The night will culminate with a DJ session from Puerto at midnight. On Saturday, the popular David Otero will take over at the same time, followed by DJ Sofía Cristo who will close the day. On Sunday, flamenco will resonate in the pradera with a free concert by DeMarco Flamenco.
Aside from the concerts, Madrid will offer a variety of cultural events throughout the weekend. The Fiesta de los Mayos, starting at 11:00 AM in Plaza de Lavapiés, will include traditional dances and floral offerings. At the same time, motor enthusiasts can enjoy an exhibition of the iconic Seat 600, while the Iván de Vargas Library will present a fashion show inspired by traditional styles.
No discussion of the weekend would be complete without mentioning the return of the famous Otro Puto Mercadillo. This alternative market will bring together the best of independent art and vintage products from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Espacio Próxima Estación. Additionally, the International Record Fair of Madrid, located at the Convention Palace, will open its doors on both Saturday and Sunday, offering thousands of vinyl records and CDs alongside concerts.
Madrid is also hosting fascinating exhibitions this weekend. At the Espacio Puerta del Ángel, visitors can see Euphoria – Art is in the Air, an interactive show featuring inflatable installations created by international artists. For film fans, the exhibition The Empire Strikes Back Fan, showcasing over 600 items related to Star Wars, will be available at the Espacio Delicias.
Not everything is music and markets; those interested in unique experiences can board the historic Strawberry Train, which recreates a journey between Madrid and Aranjuez while offering fresh tastings. The Cervantes Train will also return, offering a theatrical journey to Alcalá de Henares.
